What do ya say, about Jay....today???
bitches...
for all those of you that gave me crap for loving cutler...THAT my friends...is for you.
Look...it was a small glimmer of light...and potentially shortlived...but it was sure as hell pretty...
i feel refreshed...
i feel like this whole season i have been struggling to free myself from the swampy depths...struggling to hold my breath....and finally last night, i saw the surface, breached it...and took one huge long breath of fresh air...
oh the delight i felt over just the basic excitement the Bears were again providing me...
but even more delighting was the rightiousness i came to posess...regarding cutler...
Did it, or did it not appear, that in order for cutler to be successful with this team....ALL that he required was...THE REST OF HIS GODDAMN TEAM TO SHOW UP...
I mean honestly...
Cutler did not even do ONE thing different during this game vs. the rest of the season...(as far as technical qb skill stuff)
He still made bonehead decisions at certain times...he still risked throwing the ball into tight places, as the gunslinger he is...he still threw off his back foot....and he still had nine chins....
YET....when the rest of his team comes in and actually contributes....he doesnt look all that bad anymore does he?
WHY? because receivers actually backed him up...they put forth some effort and RECEIVED his throws...not only that...but THEN...they moved with it....they didnt just fall down...they helped him out...and gave him a couple EXTRA yards...Olsen didnt just fall down...he threw defenders away and kept chuggin...
My point is really for all you damn cutler doubters....what you really doubted was whether or not cutler was the right guy for our team...IF OUR TEAM ONLY HAD A ONE MAN ROSTER.... the answer was no. When he has a team that shows up around him....HES THE RIGHT GUY...AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN. His skillset speaks for itself...put a team around him...and he will be (as i said at the beginning), the makings for the best offense the bears fans have ever seen. I still wholeheartedly believe that, and will argue that last nights game offers proof of that, despite the poor performances of the rest of the season. YES....DESPITE the pure SHIT that we have all endured....I am more convinced than ever. He didnt make it easy for me to maintain faith...believe me...i understand the fleeting doubt that we all had to experience....but i also knew that he had what it takes...and that for all intensive purposes, he SHOULD have been kicking ass...and for whatever reason, he just wasnt...I still am not sure what in gods name changed...but it was a different team out there...there WAS a team....thats the only thing that i can think of...
The O line! BEAUTIFUL! you give a man with that type of skill set and that kind of arm...that much time...and you will never lose another game...
I am ecstatic with Williams and the work he did on Jared....and the rest of the O-line looked good as well...capable...and thats all i ever asked for....they dont need to be AWESOME...they just need to actually perform their jobs....do their duties while they are in there....they did that last night....and the dividends speak for themselves.
The running game...nothing special....but again...the guys did their jobs...all that they needed to do, they did...would i like more? sure...but all i was ASKING for...at the very least...was that they do SOMETHING...obviously...they did that...and the results? again...speak for themselves. It freed up the passing game. thats all it needed to accomplish. If you can run well enough to threaten...then we can run all sorts of play action (CUTLERS SPECIALTY)...you all saw what that does for us. Great things.
Not only that....but the defense made it all worthwhile...(there were concerning second half stats...but still, read on)
The defense controlled the morale of this game....and thank god...they did a great job. I credit the defense COMPLETELY for getting us out of the morale rutt that usually lasts for the rest of the game until we lose. When we lost momentum...they came back out...and fucking ripped right back from the vikings and placed the game gently back in Cutlers hands...
They might normally have just hung their heads and accepted defeat....but for whatever reason....they turned that leaf last night....and i was SO fucking happy...
I hated that feeling when you could tell that they were accepting their fate....and i saw that happening last night at one point...and it was right then that i knew we were going to lose...
but then the defense stepped on the field....and SURPRISED THE SHIT OUT OF ME....for the 10th time that game. Where have you been Tommie....way to go alex...
and i really want to give credit to a guy that has been smeared by the media....Steltz...
everytime this guy has stepped in to cover for one of our starters...all the radio talks about is how bad he is...literally making fun of the guy....making a joke out of it.
he was no joke last night. I realize hes not awesome by any means....but man...did he come in and do his job....no one can argue with that....i was impressed. Hes probably not a permanent answer, but i'll be honest...i dont mind him on my roster AT ALL.
One thing about cutler that I DID notice change in this game was his outward leadership displays...
Correct me if im wrong, but has anyone else noticed in any OTHER game this season, Cutler high fiving guys as they come off the field....greeting them back to the sidelines? I had never noticed that before (granted, i wasnt looking), but i think that even that minor attitude change, had a more significant impact than people may realize.
which leads me to coaching...WHAT THE FUCK! God damnit...
This win...this glimmer of what the Bears SHOULD have been...actually gets me MORE pissed at the staff...than i already was...
It shows me that they simply were not doing their job until the second to last game in the season.
I really respect the play calling of Turner in the game, and the ability of Lovie to seemingly change the attitudes of the guys, and make that defense shine for us once this season...but its still too little too late for me.
they are consistently too inconsistent...
and that cant stand...
We have the player talent to beat a great Vikings team....
that talent pool didnt just SHOW up yesterday...
its always been there...sitting there....unused....ineffectively applied...
i still want a new person(s) in there to give me that consistency that we so direly need. Someone needs to be able to use the talent we have on this team in ways that are adjusted specifically to highlight the talent that is there....and there is enough, i would argue to win more games than we have....even over the past 3 years...and lovies entire reign as head coach.
And this talk of the team having the talent...does not redeem angelo in my eyes either...sure...we have the talent...but we dont have NEAR the talent that we SHOULD have...and hardly any, compared to other teams we are expected to compete against...
very luckily....this is football...and EVERY team has a chance...and the Bear optimist in me is happy to report that we have that 'Bear luck' in more situations than we realize. If that 'luck' was combined with some playmakers like other teams have distributed throughout their roster...we would be hard to beat. and be a hell of a lot more consistent.
Angelo is just as much at fault as lovie is, for the inability of this team to find any consistency...
consistency will only be found under new leadership. COMPLETELY new leadership...
I'm not completely opposed to the idea of Lovie sticking around for the defense only...but even that would be a funds concession....and i really think we would be better off with entirely new brains behind this operation.
but...lets give him credit...if indeed it is LOVIE responsible for the attitude change, and intensity change i noted last night.....and not Kreutz...whom I secretly predict is truly the origin of such....then consider my credit given...
and a fond farewell, as well...
too little, too late...he should be fired for inconsistency alone...
I cannot endure another season of his self administered football roller coaster...
hes wasting good players seasons...and has all but boarded up our window for success within the next 3 years.
See ya...

2009 Regular Season Week 10 - Bears @ SF
Son of bitch....
It hurts to be a bears fan right now...
But its even more painful to be a huge Cutler fan....as most of you should know I am.
As I've said in the past....with the bears.....when you fix one problem (defense), the ONE thing that previously was NEVER really a problem....suddenly becomes your biggest.
Man...I just dont know how that happens....ALWAYS.
In Lovie's defense...I simply dont know how you deal with this. You put in effort to fix one thing (and are fairly successful in doing so), with the assumption that everything else would stay consistent. If Lovie's assumption was correct, we SHOULD have been decent enough to pull out a win; instead all falls apart in a worst case scenario nightmare come to life....
What do you do?
The bottom line for me though, is that Cutler simply isnt as bad as that performance (or really any of his performances this season) may suggest that he is. You cant be fickle with Cutler....you cant call for his head after a game like that.
We got what we paid for. Cutler is going to take risks to try to win a game. Its either going to make him a champion in our eyes, or make him the asshole; and which of those he is...comes down to mere seconds in his decision making. OBVIOUSLY...in this particular game, he took WAY too many risks that did not benefit our team. Theres no excuse for that. But I will take my odds with Cutler any day of the week. I think it will be rarely that he performs to that degree of shittiness throughout the remaining years of his career.
I heard a stat that both Peyton Manning and Drew Brees both had a way worse first three years than Cutler's so far. I know its ridiculous to make that comparison at this particular moment in time...but not everyone is a Matt Ryan or a Joe Flacco -- where they can put out great performances in their first year...or first couple years. Those two are the exception.
I think its normal for a young QB like Cutler to have some bad games....especially given that hes with a new team, with a lot of pressure (as all Chicago QBs experience), with very little talent around him. Should he be dealing with these inconsistencies this far into the season? Week 10? No...absolutely not. I'm not excusing him....I'm just not blaming the rotting elephant shit of a season on Cutler. Hes the only reason we had a CHANCE at a season this year in the first place. We cant blame him now, even if he did pretty much just close the door on this season. The door was swinging closed anyway...it was Cutlers foot that was in the way....he just chose this game to remove his foot...and let the door slam shut....thats all.
And to be perfectly honest...I'd much rather the Bears have THIS problem....than the problem that was most concerning to me after the Arizona game....which was complete ineptitude of our defense. Mostly, because I dont believe THIS problem is an enduring one, whereas the defense and some of the others we are experiencing have much more potential to be so.
I saw a drastic improvement in the defense. Dont get me wrong...im not saying they are a top tier defense....but they proved my point from previous discussions....that their inconsistencies are not a talent issue....its a preparation and coaching issue. I believe that after the horrifying loss to the Cardinals - Lovie got on those guys -- specifically the defense.....and they came out ready to play this time. They were not awesome....but they were way more sound than I thought they could be, given their previous performances. QB and offensive problems are WAY easier to fix than the problems of an entire defense.
Now im not saying that our defensive woes are solved....they just went from hopeless....to ALMOST not hopeless. And for me? Considering how i WAS feeling about them? Thats a change that I'm pretty happy with.
But lets be honest...any hopefulness that you COULD take away from that game....is all for naught anyway... the seasons over....too little, too late.
But as far as next year goes....seeing that some of these guys that had to step in on the defense, can at least hold a mediocre offensive team to 10, is a good sign. It shouldnt, by any means, signal the start of a parade for the defense....its just a good sign...thats it. Next year - Some of our injured guys come back...some of these guys are a tough year better...a tough year more improved....and can help us that much more. And it gives me more hope that with our limited draft picks, we can MAYBE fill enough of the holes we have on this team...because if these guys can stand tall in their roles as they did last night....maybe we have a chance to keep our focus on the positions that really need help in the off season....even more than these other concerning positions. Thats my hope....i have to hold onto something.
The change I saw was a change in defensive mindset....
In previous games, when the defense would get pounded and make a terrible play...they wouldnt recover...they would take on the attitude of, "ohh...here we go again" and allow for some sort of self loathing, self fulfilling prophecy to take place. I saw them recover much better during this game...I saw them get run over by Gore one play...and instead of letting him use that momentum and continue to run all over us....I saw them arch their back...and show a little pride....and stand up for themselves....and believe that they could do something about it.
Thats all I ask....go out there like you CAN win....not like lemmings ready to willingly walk off a cliff. I think the players banded together to make this happen....and I think whatever leadership did this time to get these guys ready, was good....and I hope its not forgotten for next week... returning the unit to business as usual. For Lovie...HE CANNOT let this happen. If he does...it truly is over for him....if he can even withstand what this year's lack of success will surely bring to him anyway. But for the record...he showed ME enough...at least to not want him gone right NOW like I did after Arizona. I dont know if hes the right guy to rebuild our team....but the slight change I observed, despite the poor outcome, was enough to stop me from finding out where he lives and doing unthinkable things with a chainsaw....and thats a start.
In any event....I called for an immediate and drastic change from leadership. It seems counterintuitive to say, considering the outcome of the game, but I am actually encouraged by what I saw....because the things that I was concerned about...DID show improvement...I just wasnt anticipating the monster diareah fart that was Cutler's performance. If Cutlers performance was ever so slightly less horrible, we win that game....and thats what I assumed would happen if Lovie got his defense to show up...which he did, at least to the degree that I expected he should be able to, if he had ANY ability to do his job.
The inconsistency weve endured on both sides of the ball, still bolsters my argument that there are coaching issues....but I saw a bit more preparation out of the team as a whole from a coaching perspective....they seemed more ready to play...(with the exception of Cutler and maybe our receivers...and the penalties). Thats a step in the right direction....and thats really what i was asking for....I just wanted to stop taking steps BACKWARD....and I think (as far as the defense goes anyway) the leadership did that....and that was a very very small step in the correct direction. Would I like more? of course.... But can you blame me for being even slightly happy that leadership at least seemed to get the picture? that they appeared to wake up a little? It wasnt enough....but its something....where I previously thought there would be a big NOTHING...
So go ahead...give me grief for being all up on Cutler's balls all this time, saying he would be the best weve ever seen and all that. He wasnt good. I'll take it on the chin...just like he will have to. But I still stand behind my support of Cutler. He WILL be the best QB weve ever seen in Chicago....I apparently just cant put a time constraint on when that will be realized. It appears that it will be a sec...
He needs to work on his footwork....he needs to see the field better....and he needs to probably take a cue from Orton and learn how to take care of the ball and not allow himself to be the one that beats us. I predict, Cutler bounces back and we hardly ever see him in this form ever again...
So, if you must..... take solace in my despair...and my disappointment...and my temporary disillusionment in Cutler.... I dont think it will happen very often....and sooner or later...i will eventually be proven righteous in my undying support and faith in his arm, and leadership of this team.
I only hope we can keep him alive long enough so he can prove it to you all....and so that maybe we can get some people around him to help him out.

2009 Regular Season Week 9 - Bears vs. Cardinals
Bears WHAT!??
Bears suck...
thats what....
Fuck me.
What....in the hell......was that?
Gracious me....what do you say about YOUR defense now....LOVIE??!!
!!!?!???!???
I dont want to hear shit about the offense....
YES...the O-line is still pitiful...
Yes...they had something to do with this loss...
Yes, Cutler was still running for his life....
Yes, I still despise this fact.....but OBVIOUSLY...this time, they were not the worst unit out there.
...they were dissappointing...as every aspect of the Bear's game was...but I think we would be remiss if we didnt primarily blame the glaringly bad defense for this loss.
If I could only choose one thing that had me looking around for a rope all game...
it would be 3rd downs....
Why did every third down look like our defense was interrupting their nap time? What do you even say about this?
Thats my biggest problem right now....there are SO MANY problems...
It was daunting for me to even THINK about writing this week....and I'm still so hurt and ashamed by what I bore witness to, that I STILL dont think I am thinking coherently about this...
So...if you all saw what I saw....then I'll save my breath...
We all know we are fucked....we all saw that it was pathetic....no reason to get everyone riled up...
Instead...let me mention some good things...
Olsen...
Oh wait...thats ONE thing...
Even so...I am grateful someone on our coaching staff figured out how to use a damn TE. Took them long enough. But as usual folks....don't be surprised if this positive news from the TE position is a week long phenomenon. Our coaches and our players have an intolerably short memory. Anything done differently that resulted in this newfound success for Olsen, is likely only temporary.
The story goes....you fix one thing with the Bears, and everything else falls apart. You start to focus on those other things...and the ONE thing that you thought you had solved...returns to its previously unbearibly shitty state...leaving us back at square one.
And as for THIS game...I like the fact that someone stepped up...I just wish, FOR ONCE, that when that happened, everyone else didn't fall on their face...
I'm afraid there is no way to get to 10 wins now...no wild card....no season....
As only a desperate Bears fan can...I will hold onto playoff hopes....but don't be fooled...my hopes are comparable to those I might have for finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow...
Its a sad state of affairs....and I cant believe that the best case scenario...THE BEST CASE (unlikely as hell as it is)....is that I have to wait an entire year for a REAL season of Bears football...
...and to think that we will be in BETTER shape next year....is an uncanny thought indeed. Possible....but doubtful...
Even if there IS improvement by next year....to what degree? Its easy to improve on pure shit. DRIED shit is an improvement on wet smelly shit.....but its still shit...its just older and mustier...not as obvious that what youre looking at came directly from a rotten asshole.
I'm sorry...but I am NOT going to stand around all off season being fed little tidbits of information about how this guy from the defense is really improving...or the o-line is getting the time they needed to gel....or the receivers are really developing and stepping up....or whatever new piece of news they want us to chew on so that we can convince ourselves that we have some sort of shot.
I've been kidding myself for three straight years because of what these idiots decide to tell us.
I will not be happy with a confidence win over piss poor Cleveland...I will not be happy with a "I dont know what happened this week, but we'll be prepared next week" from Lovie.....I will not be happy with a "ohhh, that was a troubled season....a rebuilding season....this NEXT one will be better"....
enough already...
I need major changes....
If we are going to rebuild around Cutler....and we have a couple of shitty years ahead while we do that....then fine....do it...
But say so...don't fucking pull this stupid shit like we are SUPPOSED to win in the meantime...and you just can't seem to figure out why we arent being successful....like you dont know what is happening....
I call BS....
If you, as a coach...cant see that your team sucks....you should NOT be our coach.
Just admit that its a rebuilding period if thats what it is....
Earth to Lovie!
You have old guys that dont feel it necessary to earn their paychecks sitting on your roster....and thats YOUR fault....
Some of your players are acting like, because they used to be top tier out there, and you have developed a strong relationship with these players, that they can take advantage of this. They likely feel that now that they have earned their roster spot, along with your respect, that they can never be displaced and that they can just go grab ass all day and do shit. Why WOULDNT they just sit around and collect their money? I would.
Way to create an incentivised environment for your players...Lovie. You have a bunch of bitches on your defense...complete wastes of space.....not unlike you...because you dont have the management ability to fucking cut your losses and let go of someone whos personality you may like...but that no longer offers ANY football value to you or your team.
Make Tommie practice if he's starting for your team and getting paid the most money of anyone on your D-line! If you still see some smidgeon of talent in weak sauce Vasher...show us where it is!
Wake UP!! YOU STUBBORN SON OF A BITCH! DO YOU WANT TO TAKE CONTROL OF THIS TEAM OR WHAT? Right now this team is being controlled by its own unstoppable demise.
And look...I'm not blaming Lovie for all of this. I actually think he is a good coach (albeit overrated) and that it would be a mistake to get rid of him (partially because there is so much money wrapped up in him...and partially because I think SOME things that he brings to the table are valuable)....but he needs to change in a drastic way for me to retain that belief...and he needs to do it soon....theres plenty to work on.
Heres the start of a long list...
Lovie's improvement list:
-player incentivising
-in-game coaching strategy
-opponent based preparation
-football innovation
-cutting losses (trimming the fat)
-contract negotiations (have a realistic idea of how long a player will add value, so you dont end up with dead weight)
-identifying the true problem...fixing it...and MAINTAINING the fix.
And thats not to mention my drafting concerns with Angelo. Thats a whole other story.
Anywho...what I heard on the radio this morning was an argument against the players...
...Im slightly appalled at this...
Listen....we can talk about a problem with the players all day....yes...this problem exists...
But I'm kind of shocked that the 'PLAYERS' are the talk of the radio and media this morning....
How many consecutive years in a row, under the same leadership (the only constant variable), can we blame the players....??
The players change every god damn year....especially in Chicago....KEY POSITIONS are changing....
when does it become obvious that there is something much worse at work here....or not working, should I say.
I'm not saying the coaches have to go....but someone needs a light bulb moment....and to realize that this is NOT the players.....it all starts with the coaching.
Coaches make the decisions that bring certain players in...get players ready to play...get a gameplan in place for a certain opponent...decide which players they are going to expect production from in a game....
...EVERYTHING that happens within an organization is a result of one, two, or three people at the top....
A coaches job is to take players and make them successful under a single team identity.....and that identity is chosen by the coaching staff...and is subsequently the responsibility of that leadership team....so if the players are failing within that identity...its a failure of leadership...its a failure I chalk up to the coaches....
But thats just my opinion....
A player can drop a ball.....a coach can draft a player that consistently drops balls....
Who can I possibly hold more responsible than a coach?
But look, I'm not calling for his resignation...or anything that serious....but I am calling for something different from him...and quick.
My biggest knock on Lovie as a coach is, and always has been, his IN-GAME coaching abilities. And when I talk about Lovie, I mean his whole staff...his whole identity...I'm not purposefully singling him out.
I guess when I see his apparent lack of understanding DURING a game....it makes me question how much he understands about what how hes doing his job OFF the field....when he's NOT on national television. If hes this bad right in front of me, how bad is he when strategizing a gameplan in his office, or when explaining to his defense how to execute, ect.?
I dont KNOW that he is bad in these aspects...but its a concern....a fair one, I would venture...
And when your beloved team comes out and plays like that? It makes that question even more important. And thats what my point is. Someone needs to check into it is all...
...make sure he is earning his money, and doing a good job....and perhaps more, has the knowledge and understanding REQUIRED to do a good job.
I dont think that that is going too far....or being too impulsive. I think it is fiscally responsible for our organization to re-evaluate and re-examine what is going on with our leadership right now.
thats all...
DLP
2009 Regular Season Week 7 - Bears @ Bengals
"Bears fail...and I'm angry...and I'm back...and I'm lengthier than ever"
and so begins my vent sesh...
I'ts been a while kids...but I feel the need as a fan to finally speak out once more....
So I'm coming out of retirement to comment on our latest attempt at resembling shit swirling down a toilet...
Well fellas...
If that wasnt a wake up call....I don't know what is.
6-10 anyone??? IF we are lucky?
lets see...
We have the browns next week...which if we dont win...will make me a full on Saints fan...for good...
Then we lose 4 games until we hit the Rams...
By that time...with our luck...the rams will have probably hit their stride and we will lose to THEM too...
But lets just say we beat them...
Anyone arguing we lose the next three after that? yeah...didnt think so.
Then the lions...and we could potentially lose that too with how things are looking...
BEST case scenario - 6 and 10.
Likely scenario -- 4 and 12.....
After last nights game....consider me graciously bowing out of the Bear optimist category...
At the beginning of the season, everyone believed that with Cutler coming in, supposed improvements in the O-line, Marinelli working with the D-line, receivers stepping up, Forte coming off of a monster year....
....It was hard NOT to have every belief that this team had what it needed to perform this season.
After the first game in GB...we considered it a fluke...figured it would take a little time for them get in synch right?
yeaaaahhh...no...
The next couple of games...we SURVIVED...
Everyone was looking for the lines on both sides of the ball to prove that they were improved...but they didnt... the only reason we survived those games is via other players stepping up...(ie the usual Briggs, Cutler, Knox, SP Teams)...which simply temporarily masked our true problems....or distracted us from them, really....
...you cant argue with a win....but we should have been....(arguing that is).....because even in our wins...it should have remained clear that our problems were not truly resolved.
So the problem is...and always was...the O-line and the D-line.
And perhaps the bigger problem is that we have a staff that sincerely believed that it had righted a tilting ship...or at least suggested that they had righted the ship...over and over again. Well....the ship is fucking upside down, if not already at the bottom of the sea.
So pick one...are you dumb? or are you lying?
You are dumb if you believed you fixed it...and youre lying if you knew you hadnt. I dont know which answer I want to hear. But honestly...as a fan, I think I need to finally hear SOME real answers. I'm tired of everyone on the staff acting like nothing is wrong from week to week...like we are always just a game away from busting out into playoff worthy play...
This is ridiculous...and its more than just a bad couple of games...
THIS IS CONSECUTIVE SEASONS OF PURE SHIT AND DISAPPOINTMENT...this is not just one game, or one season that I am using as ammunition...
Every year, its something else....
When Rex was blowing it...all we needed was a running game....
When forte was the answer to our running game....it was ortons fault....so we bring in Cutler...
When cutler blows...its cause we dont have receivers...or because our defense had a bad game...or whatever...
does anyone else see this??!? Excuses,.... constantly...im done listening to them...
this is not a PLAYER problem....
yeah...i think we have some lazy, lax attitude players right now....
But everyone is lazy...inherently...its the coaches job to give incentive...to give inspiration...to reward guys with work ethic and to spare me the pain of watching people that dont have it....those players without heart....why are they on my team?
I'd literally rather have a fat ass mentally retarted D lineman that will leave his damn heart on the field...rather than these seemingly 'athletic' peices of shit that dont seem to care.
To me, its an issue with the coaching...
It is a coaches job to get these players ready to play every week....and its simply not being done.
The coaching staff has two foreseeable excuses....or supposed reasons why things arent working out as they expected...neither of which are really that acceptable...and in reality, its probably a horrible combination of both problems.
Either they believe that they are not bringing in the right players, or they are not DOING enough week to week to prepare those players...or to improve them...
They either suck as long term future minded coaches (drafting, trades, ect)...or they suck as short term present minded coaches (in-game adaptations, gameplanning, football innovation, teaching)...
Theres no getting around it guys. Its one or the other...(or in my opinion for this case...BOTH)
I've ALWAYS thought that Chicago had a larger problem with the latter. Terrible in-game coaching....and in the same sense, if you arent that smart during a live game, you cant be that good at foreseeing what that live game will bring you...and thus you will do a poor job in preparing your team for the next opponent week to week.
NOW...im starting to see...that they really arent all that good at bringing in quality talent either...so what ARE they good at??...
The obvious, but painful answer is....nothing. We suck. Someone needs to take Cutler, Briggs, and Knox....and start ALL over. And they need to do it now.
I'm obviously over-reacting and dont truly believe this...maybe in an ideal world...
But realistically we all know it cant be done like that...
So, one can assume....one may ask...alright smarty pants, "How would YOU fix this....realistically?"
Well...I dont get paid millions of dollars to KNOW what to do....but I do have some logic....and I will tell you what that logic might suggest be done....
Draft only offensive lineman...make trades...teach new guys the positions.....do whatever you have to do to get that QB (whom is now our last hope...our only potential savior till 2014) protected...he NEEDS space to do his job...and if you put that much money into a franchise QB...you better put money into all those areas (O-line) that let him earn his money...
...instead, our money is being spent having him fall all over the field, or (potentially) sitting on the bench with an injury received while being chased around like hes the cutest girl in grade school and is running from a bunch of horny 5th grade boys. Real efficient use of MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
I dont care about ANYTHING else. The first thing that needs to happen is, we need an O-line in Chicago....a young one...one that can grow with Cutler. No more vets...vets are lazy...and they've already made their money...and have their path cleared to the hall of fame or whatever....get them the FUCK off my team. Bring in a smart offensive line coach...and make it happen...
THIS SHOULD BE A NUMBER ONE PRIORITY -- OVER ALL ELSE...Sparing no expense...with no other considerations...forget about the defense or the receivers....its not going to matter until you take care of this.
The O-line significantly impacts:
-the health of your quarterback
-the success of your quarterback
-the success of your running game
Are these not the three things that we have been struggling with for YEARS???!? How long does it take YOU to figure out where the REAL problem is???!? How long should I be comfortable with it taking the Chicago coaches?? Let me give you a hint. ONE year is too long. One WEEK is too long.... How do you think I feel about SIX years?! I dont...
I dont feel a god damned thing anymore....
With a franchise QB, an O-line, and a D-line.......
thats the start of a team.....
fill in the other positions in any which way you want....the foundation is there....and the rest will fall into place.
This isnt rocket science....
...and I'm not going to do.....what everyone THINKS I'm gonna do.....which is....JUST FREAK OUT...
but yes....yes i am going to do that...

2009 Regular Season Week 1 - Bears @ GB
Daaaaaaaaaa shittiest game ever...
Personally, I think Cutler will be fine. I think a lot was the pressure…and a lot was compounded by frustration.
Its unfortunate that we start this way…but it may have been inevitable for us to have a game like this…no one is on the same page…and with such a new offense, that has barely had time to work together?…that basically has the potential of putting us at a complete offensive standstill (which is what we saw)…hopefully only during these first few games.
I think that with a few more weeks of working with his group of WRs, getting them on better routes against the blitz, and a couple other minor modifications to the game plan from Turner.....the Bears offense will be good. We just were not ready…in case you couldn’t observe that with your own eyes…
The shittiest part for me…is that despite our pitiful offense…we were STILL given every opportunity to win. Nuts.
Also, I question the gameplan.....why did we let GB dictate the type of game that was to be played...
It was almost instantaneously the most pathetic shootout ive ever seen between Cutler and Rodgers...why?
Our coaches were manipulated into playing exactly the type of game they wanted....and our players couldnt execute....which is exactly what they were banking on.
I'm pretty tired of poor in-game coaching decisions. I dont think the staff avoids blame here. Yes, the receivers were dropping balls. Yes, Cutler was frustrated and 'affected'...but the play calling was pretty bad I thought....very streaky and inconsistent....and basically, the entire game could have been avoided had we come in with a better gameplan (which maybe they had)....but then they should have stuck to it. They diverged from what should have been a 'initiate the run game in the first half' type of gameplan....instead we showed them weaknesses in Cutler and our pass game.....and GB continued to exploit once the wounds were on display.
Good news? I currently am in the lead in all of my fantasy leagues....eat that shit NFL...trying to take away all the joy of my football season starting. Not even possible....not even after making me endure that torture sesh....pure torture.....i would have enjoyed having shards of glass in my penis hole more passionately.

So, I'll save you from my normal lengthy examination.....
WHY???
CAUSE THERE IS NOTHING TO TALK ABOUT!!! HAHAHAHAHA. Nothing bad anyway.
They were..... everything I thought, expected, and have been saying they could be. PERFECT. With the added bonus of a surprisingly stingy defensive performance...
Im glad they put on a show for all those worryworts....does that satisfy you folks??? we be lookin good.
I cant say much else other than -- like I said....a better offense than any of us have ever seen before. No matter our defensive performance....opponents will be hard off to match our ability to score on every drive.
hakuna matata my peeps...
This is going to be an awesome year...

2009 Pre-season Game 1 - Bears @ Bills
If you want to try to feel better about what you saw Saturday....read this... otherwise, dont waste your time...its a long one...and I dont need any guff from anyone. You've been warned....read at your risk...I dont want any comments about length.
So here goes...heres my analysis...
Well,
At points, that was tough to watch...but Im not concerned...ever the Bear optimist.
I dont know about you folks, but I didnt need to see a goddamn thing from the offense in the first pre-season game...
It didnt matter to me if they sucked balls or were lightning in a bottle. All I cared about is Cutler leaving the game healthy...which he did. They dont need to prove anything to me. By regular season, they will be a better offense than we have ever seen from a Bear unit....in my lifetime...that I can remember.
He had some good looks, and some bad ones.... neither really mean anything. Even if he threw nothing but perfect balls, I wouldnt have cared....its simply too early...and the players are just getting their heart rates up...this is about getting gametime experience before the real deal. And certainly, someone like Cutler, doesnt care about being perfect out there....hes just ironing out the kinks. Also...remember...we were sitting out our best player - Forte - which means...they can pretty much assume Cutler is going to throw every play......not hard to key in on a QB when you know hes throwing....and any other option he may have is likely to fall down at the line of scrimmage. (Jones still needs to show me more).
For me it was the defense I wanted to check out....primarily to check out our depth...which I was actually fairly impressed with.
Mind you - I'm primarily talking about the starting line-ups in this e-mail...just a note before I get too far...
I thought they looked good. How could i think so, you ask? What game was I watching? How, when Edwards had the completion percentage that he had...and with the non-starters looking inconsistent as well, can you possibly say such a thing?
Well, you have to remember something. This was the Bears first game. This was the Bills second. Edwards and his starting offense had a couple quarters of working with eachother in a real game situation to pull from, and I personally believe that they took advantage of a lack of cohesion yet to be obtained by the bears starting defense. There is a huge difference between meeting a defense that hasnt played real time yet this year...and playing one with a game under their belt already...
And Edwards having those minutes with his offense...not to mention a week of practices to work on some kinks that were discovered in that first game (ie. problems with the no huddle offense, ect.)...adds to the advantage. Even with that advantage...which to me, is very significant....I still saw some good things...things that I was looking for. Like the d-line.
I thought it looked improved...thats all I wanted to see. There was definitely some decent pressure...and by the time we get to regular season, I have no doubt it will look better. I loved how everyone was flying to the ball. Thats huge. I saw an aggressive defense that had yet to be in gametime situations, all at the same time....they probably practice as units most of the time...so it will take a couple pre-season games to put it all together. I saw a lot of depth...and a lot of special talent that will no doubt result in gamechanging plays come regular season. The defense looked hungry...but were missing cues and messing up some of the little things.........these things will be ironed out.
The defense resembled an older, more stingy, bear defense....if you remember back to like the 2005 pre-season defense....there are some similarities...especially in overall tenacity and 'bigness' of the defense. They were hitting hard...and playing shit out...and getting places fast....even if they should have technically already been there. Thats a mental thing. Physically, they look good....certainly better than I thought. Mentally...they have some stuff to go over and to get ironed out.....but that is to be expected, i would argue.
If you are like me, and never thought for a second that the offense was an issue...this was a good game. The offense did not need to prove shit. And they didnt disprove anything about themselves from this game, as far as I'm concerned. Its preseason. I promise you, we will look 10 times better come regular season. Look at orton's first game. Poor guys personal nightmare... I guarantee, by the time reg season comes along, he will be playing with much more confidence...and be looking much better (I hope...poor guy). I think we can expect the same kind of exponential improvement from Cutler and OUR offense, as the preseason goes on...and certainly by the time we get to GB...we NEED to get it together by then. Starting the season against GB is not an advantage for us in this case. We need to make sure that our offense is ready to go and that they are synching...cause I predict that game will be a shootout....a rivalry shootout at that. We will need Cutler to play well. If he doesnt...forget about it. 0-1.
Give Cutler time...
Hell, compare Edwards first preseason game stats to his second game...I believe Cutler will enjoy the same type of improvement.
Edwards first game - 3 throws for 34 yards and an interception
Edwards second game - 10 of 10 for 79 - no interceptions
Thats a huge difference in performance.....
Cutlers first game - 5 for 10 with 64 yards and an interception
-- That would mean that next game - we can expect something like this from Cutler: 10 of 15 for 109 yards - no interceptions. Total lack of scientificness...but seriously...its a good point. Theres an expected cumulitive growth throughout the preseason.
In any event...I'm not sweating. Next weekend, you will see there is no reason to worry...its just working the kinks.
Although..... Green Bay taking such a chunk out of the Browns early pre-season, makes me a little weary that we face them first. I think we will be ready at that point tho. Its the Browns...what else do you need to know? Not a good team
.....although...an argument to that would be --- its the Bills....
hmmm....
again - Bills game 2 vs Bears game 1....I'd say that accounts for more than 7 points.....
They only won by 7.
Thoughts? Comments? Tell me I dont have a point here.
