About Me

Chicago, IL, United States
I'm just your average opinionated Bears fan. Over the years, I've gradually earned a reputation with my friends for writing ridiculously long e-mails relating to anything "Chicago Sports." I've decided to spare them the hassle of automatically clicking the 'delete' button, and created this blog instead. Why limit the reach of my obnoxious blabbering? Why not let the entire public see the rantings of DLP? My hope is that I can inspire other opinionated Chicago fans to speak their minds freely. I know you're out there. THIS is your medium...

2009 Regular Season Week 15 - Bears vs. Vikings

What do ya say, about Jay....today???

bitches...

for all those of you that gave me crap for loving cutler...THAT my friends...is for you.

Look...it was a small glimmer of light...and potentially shortlived...but it was sure as hell pretty...

i feel refreshed...

i feel like this whole season i have been struggling to free myself from the swampy depths...struggling to hold my breath....and finally last night, i saw the surface, breached it...and took one huge long breath of fresh air...

oh the delight i felt over just the basic excitement the Bears were again providing me...

but even more delighting was the rightiousness i came to posess...regarding cutler...

Did it, or did it not appear, that in order for cutler to be successful with this team....ALL that he required was...THE REST OF HIS GODDAMN TEAM TO SHOW UP...

I mean honestly...

Cutler did not even do ONE thing different during this game vs. the rest of the season...(as far as technical qb skill stuff)

He still made bonehead decisions at certain times...he still risked throwing the ball into tight places, as the gunslinger he is...he still threw off his back foot....and he still had nine chins....

YET....when the rest of his team comes in and actually contributes....he doesnt look all that bad anymore does he?

WHY? because receivers actually backed him up...they put forth some effort and RECEIVED his throws...not only that...but THEN...they moved with it....they didnt just fall down...they helped him out...and gave him a couple EXTRA yards...Olsen didnt just fall down...he threw defenders away and kept chuggin...

My point is really for all you damn cutler doubters....what you really doubted was whether or not cutler was the right guy for our team...IF OUR TEAM ONLY HAD A ONE MAN ROSTER.... the answer was no. When he has a team that shows up around him....HES THE RIGHT GUY...AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN. His skillset speaks for itself...put a team around him...and he will be (as i said at the beginning), the makings for the best offense the bears fans have ever seen. I still wholeheartedly believe that, and will argue that last nights game offers proof of that, despite the poor performances of the rest of the season. YES....DESPITE the pure SHIT that we have all endured....I am more convinced than ever. He didnt make it easy for me to maintain faith...believe me...i understand the fleeting doubt that we all had to experience....but i also knew that he had what it takes...and that for all intensive purposes, he SHOULD have been kicking ass...and for whatever reason, he just wasnt...I still am not sure what in gods name changed...but it was a different team out there...there WAS a team....thats the only thing that i can think of...

The O line! BEAUTIFUL! you give a man with that type of skill set and that kind of arm...that much time...and you will never lose another game...

I am ecstatic with Williams and the work he did on Jared....and the rest of the O-line looked good as well...capable...and thats all i ever asked for....they dont need to be AWESOME...they just need to actually perform their jobs....do their duties while they are in there....they did that last night....and the dividends speak for themselves.

The running game...nothing special....but again...the guys did their jobs...all that they needed to do, they did...would i like more? sure...but all i was ASKING for...at the very least...was that they do SOMETHING...obviously...they did that...and the results? again...speak for themselves. It freed up the passing game. thats all it needed to accomplish. If you can run well enough to threaten...then we can run all sorts of play action (CUTLERS SPECIALTY)...you all saw what that does for us. Great things.

Not only that....but the defense made it all worthwhile...(there were concerning second half stats...but still, read on)

The defense controlled the morale of this game....and thank god...they did a great job. I credit the defense COMPLETELY for getting us out of the morale rutt that usually lasts for the rest of the game until we lose. When we lost momentum...they came back out...and fucking ripped right back from the vikings and placed the game gently back in Cutlers hands...

They might normally have just hung their heads and accepted defeat....but for whatever reason....they turned that leaf last night....and i was SO fucking happy...

I hated that feeling when you could tell that they were accepting their fate....and i saw that happening last night at one point...and it was right then that i knew we were going to lose...

but then the defense stepped on the field....and SURPRISED THE SHIT OUT OF ME....for the 10th time that game. Where have you been Tommie....way to go alex...

and i really want to give credit to a guy that has been smeared by the media....Steltz...

everytime this guy has stepped in to cover for one of our starters...all the radio talks about is how bad he is...literally making fun of the guy....making a joke out of it.

he was no joke last night. I realize hes not awesome by any means....but man...did he come in and do his job....no one can argue with that....i was impressed. Hes probably not a permanent answer, but i'll be honest...i dont mind him on my roster AT ALL.

One thing about cutler that I DID notice change in this game was his outward leadership displays...

Correct me if im wrong, but has anyone else noticed in any OTHER game this season, Cutler high fiving guys as they come off the field....greeting them back to the sidelines? I had never noticed that before (granted, i wasnt looking), but i think that even that minor attitude change, had a more significant impact than people may realize.

which leads me to coaching...WHAT THE FUCK! God damnit...

This win...this glimmer of what the Bears SHOULD have been...actually gets me MORE pissed at the staff...than i already was...

It shows me that they simply were not doing their job until the second to last game in the season.

I really respect the play calling of Turner in the game, and the ability of Lovie to seemingly change the attitudes of the guys, and make that defense shine for us once this season...but its still too little too late for me.

they are consistently too inconsistent...

and that cant stand...

We have the player talent to beat a great Vikings team....

that talent pool didnt just SHOW up yesterday...

its always been there...sitting there....unused....ineffectively applied...

i still want a new person(s) in there to give me that consistency that we so direly need. Someone needs to be able to use the talent we have on this team in ways that are adjusted specifically to highlight the talent that is there....and there is enough, i would argue to win more games than we have....even over the past 3 years...and lovies entire reign as head coach.

And this talk of the team having the talent...does not redeem angelo in my eyes either...sure...we have the talent...but we dont have NEAR the talent that we SHOULD have...and hardly any, compared to other teams we are expected to compete against...

very luckily....this is football...and EVERY team has a chance...and the Bear optimist in me is happy to report that we have that 'Bear luck' in more situations than we realize. If that 'luck' was combined with some playmakers like other teams have distributed throughout their roster...we would be hard to beat. and be a hell of a lot more consistent.

Angelo is just as much at fault as lovie is, for the inability of this team to find any consistency...

consistency will only be found under new leadership. COMPLETELY new leadership...

I'm not completely opposed to the idea of Lovie sticking around for the defense only...but even that would be a funds concession....and i really think we would be better off with entirely new brains behind this operation.

but...lets give him credit...if indeed it is LOVIE responsible for the attitude change, and intensity change i noted last night.....and not Kreutz...whom I secretly predict is truly the origin of such....then consider my credit given...

and a fond farewell, as well...

too little, too late...he should be fired for inconsistency alone...

I cannot endure another season of his self administered football roller coaster...

hes wasting good players seasons...and has all but boarded up our window for success within the next 3 years.

See ya...

  1. What do you say about some of the recent coaching developments with the Bears? Perry Fewell is out as DC, he’s going over to the NY Giants. Jeremy Bates is out as OC, he’s going over to the Seahawks. Mike Tice in as Offensive line coach.

Here are my thoughts – I don’t know much of anything about Fewell, except that his secondary in Buffalo played very well without any real household names. It would have been nice to have him there to develop our young guys in the secondary like Afalava, Payne and Bowman. Ultimately I’m not too sad because I didn’t know enough about the guy. Bates would have been nice because he already had success with Cutler in Denver, but again we have a chicken and egg argument with how much their excellent O-line had to do with his success over there. You do have to question why he was unable to get another offensive coordinator job in the pro game last year. I like Mike Tice being brought in as O-Line coach. He had a lot of success with the Vikings as their O-Line coach prior to becoming their head coach. Also, he used to be a tight end when he played in the league, so maybe he can teach Greg Olsen how to throw a block. The only drawback is that we’ve seen this experiment before with the Bears with Rod Marinelli – bringing in an NFC North ex-head coach who struggled as a head coach but is supposed to energize a struggling unit.

Ideally the Bears would be able to get a guy like Leslie Frazier with the Vikings to be their defensive coordinator. Chances of that are nil, because he will likely either take a head coaching spot or stay with the Vikes. Why would he want a lateral move to a worse D than the Vikes? But in an ideal world he would be great – a solid defensive mind with the talent to be a head coach if Lovie has another bad year. The bears should look to find someone who fits a similar profile.

Any thoughts on who the Bears might get as OC/DC?
