About Me

Chicago, IL, United States
I'm just your average opinionated Bears fan. Over the years, I've gradually earned a reputation with my friends for writing ridiculously long e-mails relating to anything "Chicago Sports." I've decided to spare them the hassle of automatically clicking the 'delete' button, and created this blog instead. Why limit the reach of my obnoxious blabbering? Why not let the entire public see the rantings of DLP? My hope is that I can inspire other opinionated Chicago fans to speak their minds freely. I know you're out there. THIS is your medium...

2009 Regular Season Week 9 - Bears vs. Cardinals

Bears WHAT!??

Bears suck...

thats what....

Fuck me.

What....in the hell......was that?

Gracious me....what do you say about YOUR defense now....LOVIE??!!

!!!?!???!???

I dont want to hear shit about the offense....
YES...the O-line is still pitiful...
Yes...they had something to do with this loss...
Yes, Cutler was still running for his life....
Yes, I still despise this fact.....but OBVIOUSLY...this time, they were not the worst unit out there.
...they were dissappointing...as every aspect of the Bear's game was...but I think we would be remiss if we didnt primarily blame the glaringly bad defense for this loss.

If I could only choose one thing that had me looking around for a rope all game...
it would be 3rd downs....

Why did every third down look like our defense was interrupting their nap time? What do you even say about this?

Thats my biggest problem right now....there are SO MANY problems...

It was daunting for me to even THINK about writing this week....and I'm still so hurt and ashamed by what I bore witness to, that I STILL dont think I am thinking coherently about this...

So...if you all saw what I saw....then I'll save my breath...

We all know we are fucked....we all saw that it was pathetic....no reason to get everyone riled up...

Instead...let me mention some good things...

Olsen...

Oh wait...thats ONE thing...

Even so...I am grateful someone on our coaching staff figured out how to use a damn TE. Took them long enough. But as usual folks....don't be surprised if this positive news from the TE position is a week long phenomenon. Our coaches and our players have an intolerably short memory. Anything done differently that resulted in this newfound success for Olsen, is likely only temporary.

The story goes....you fix one thing with the Bears, and everything else falls apart. You start to focus on those other things...and the ONE thing that you thought you had solved...returns to its previously unbearibly shitty state...leaving us back at square one.

And as for THIS game...I like the fact that someone stepped up...I just wish, FOR ONCE, that when that happened, everyone else didn't fall on their face...

I'm afraid there is no way to get to 10 wins now...no wild card....no season....

As only a desperate Bears fan can...I will hold onto playoff hopes....but don't be fooled...my hopes are comparable to those I might have for finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow...

Its a sad state of affairs....and I cant believe that the best case scenario...THE BEST CASE (unlikely as hell as it is)....is that I have to wait an entire year for a REAL season of Bears football...
...and to think that we will be in BETTER shape next year....is an uncanny thought indeed. Possible....but doubtful...

Even if there IS improvement by next year....to what degree? Its easy to improve on pure shit. DRIED shit is an improvement on wet smelly shit.....but its still shit...its just older and mustier...not as obvious that what youre looking at came directly from a rotten asshole.

I'm sorry...but I am NOT going to stand around all off season being fed little tidbits of information about how this guy from the defense is really improving...or the o-line is getting the time they needed to gel....or the receivers are really developing and stepping up....or whatever new piece of news they want us to chew on so that we can convince ourselves that we have some sort of shot.

I've been kidding myself for three straight years because of what these idiots decide to tell us.

I will not be happy with a confidence win over piss poor Cleveland...I will not be happy with a "I dont know what happened this week, but we'll be prepared next week" from Lovie.....I will not be happy with a "ohhh, that was a troubled season....a rebuilding season....this NEXT one will be better"....

enough already...

I need major changes....

If we are going to rebuild around Cutler....and we have a couple of shitty years ahead while we do that....then fine....do it...

But say so...don't fucking pull this stupid shit like we are SUPPOSED to win in the meantime...and you just can't seem to figure out why we arent being successful....like you dont know what is happening....

I call BS....

If you, as a coach...cant see that your team sucks....you should NOT be our coach.

Just admit that its a rebuilding period if thats what it is....

Earth to Lovie!

You have old guys that dont feel it necessary to earn their paychecks sitting on your roster....and thats YOUR fault....

Some of your players are acting like, because they used to be top tier out there, and you have developed a strong relationship with these players, that they can take advantage of this. They likely feel that now that they have earned their roster spot, along with your respect, that they can never be displaced and that they can just go grab ass all day and do shit. Why WOULDNT they just sit around and collect their money? I would.

Way to create an incentivised environment for your players...Lovie. You have a bunch of bitches on your defense...complete wastes of space.....not unlike you...because you dont have the management ability to fucking cut your losses and let go of someone whos personality you may like...but that no longer offers ANY football value to you or your team.

Make Tommie practice if he's starting for your team and getting paid the most money of anyone on your D-line! If you still see some smidgeon of talent in weak sauce Vasher...show us where it is!

Wake UP!! YOU STUBBORN SON OF A BITCH! DO YOU WANT TO TAKE CONTROL OF THIS TEAM OR WHAT? Right now this team is being controlled by its own unstoppable demise.

And look...I'm not blaming Lovie for all of this. I actually think he is a good coach (albeit overrated) and that it would be a mistake to get rid of him (partially because there is so much money wrapped up in him...and partially because I think SOME things that he brings to the table are valuable)....but he needs to change in a drastic way for me to retain that belief...and he needs to do it soon....theres plenty to work on.

Heres the start of a long list...

Lovie's improvement list:
-player incentivising
-in-game coaching strategy
-opponent based preparation
-football innovation
-cutting losses (trimming the fat)
-contract negotiations (have a realistic idea of how long a player will add value, so you dont end up with dead weight)
-identifying the true problem...fixing it...and MAINTAINING the fix.

And thats not to mention my drafting concerns with Angelo. Thats a whole other story.

Anywho...what I heard on the radio this morning was an argument against the players...

...Im slightly appalled at this...

Listen....we can talk about a problem with the players all day....yes...this problem exists...

But I'm kind of shocked that the 'PLAYERS' are the talk of the radio and media this morning....

How many consecutive years in a row, under the same leadership (the only constant variable), can we blame the players....??

The players change every god damn year....especially in Chicago....KEY POSITIONS are changing....

when does it become obvious that there is something much worse at work here....or not working, should I say.

I'm not saying the coaches have to go....but someone needs a light bulb moment....and to realize that this is NOT the players.....it all starts with the coaching.

Coaches make the decisions that bring certain players in...get players ready to play...get a gameplan in place for a certain opponent...decide which players they are going to expect production from in a game....

...EVERYTHING that happens within an organization is a result of one, two, or three people at the top....

A coaches job is to take players and make them successful under a single team identity.....and that identity is chosen by the coaching staff...and is subsequently the responsibility of that leadership team....so if the players are failing within that identity...its a failure of leadership...its a failure I chalk up to the coaches....

But thats just my opinion....

A player can drop a ball.....a coach can draft a player that consistently drops balls....

Who can I possibly hold more responsible than a coach?

But look, I'm not calling for his resignation...or anything that serious....but I am calling for something different from him...and quick.

My biggest knock on Lovie as a coach is, and always has been, his IN-GAME coaching abilities. And when I talk about Lovie, I mean his whole staff...his whole identity...I'm not purposefully singling him out.

I guess when I see his apparent lack of understanding DURING a game....it makes me question how much he understands about what how hes doing his job OFF the field....when he's NOT on national television. If hes this bad right in front of me, how bad is he when strategizing a gameplan in his office, or when explaining to his defense how to execute, ect.?

I dont KNOW that he is bad in these aspects...but its a concern....a fair one, I would venture...

And when your beloved team comes out and plays like that? It makes that question even more important. And thats what my point is. Someone needs to check into it is all...
...make sure he is earning his money, and doing a good job....and perhaps more, has the knowledge and understanding REQUIRED to do a good job.

I dont think that that is going too far....or being too impulsive. I think it is fiscally responsible for our organization to re-evaluate and re-examine what is going on with our leadership right now.

thats all...
